Big Breakfast at the Community Shop Cafe

On Friday 7th November, 15 Beaver Scouts enjoyed pizza making for tea, and BBQ'd banana & chocs and Scout wagonwheels.  Then they had a glowstick hunt and firework display in the grounds, followed by a movie evening with hot chocolate, getting ready for bed around 9 O'clock.

Saturday morning brought a breakfast treat, as by special arrangement the Community Shop Cafe was opened within the Goldthorpe Community Shop.

Community Shop Cafe
The Beavers were offered a range of delicious foods, from fresh fruit, pan-au-chocolate with a Full English in between.  Filling up with cups of tea, fresh juices and milk.

Goldthorpe Beavers with Mr John Marren
Being greeted by Mr John Marren, the driving force behind the Community Shop concept, the Beavers were waited on, and John even served a few of his guests himself.

Breeze (Andrea Reid) has worked with John at Company Shop Limited for over 25 years and was delighted, just as John was, being able to bring together these 2 community assets, within a year of both of them opening.

Thank you to all leaders and adult supporters with special thanks to Debbie and Chris for preparing the feast, and to John and his team for allowing it all to happen.

We also would like to thank policeman Shaun McDermott and his colleague for their company on Friday evening, checking that we were all safe and sound.

Breeze (Andrea).

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!

Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today.  Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years.  Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time.  The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group.  In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times.  I also make a special mention of our Treasurer, Mark Davis, and Cub Scout Leader Akela (Cheryl) and Thunder (Ricky) our Beaver Scout Leader who have risen to the challen...
