Goldthorpe's first Scouts to be invested since the the turn of the Century

The Investiture, is one of the most important events in a Scout's life

The first Beaver and Cub Scouts from 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group will enjoy a short investiture, or joining ceremony, at the local parish church on Tuesday 18th February from 18:30.

Since re-opening the Scout group in December 2013, the Scout Leaders have worked hard to bring back Scouting to Goldthorpe with great support from the local community.  As a result a Beaver scout colony and a Cub scout pack consisting of 24 young members will be welcomed into the world wide family of Scouting.

Beaver Scouts, aged between 6 and 7 years meet weekly during term time on a Tuesday evening from 5.30pm.  Cub Scouts, aged between 8 and 10 also meet weekly during term time but on a Thursday evenings from 6.30pm.

Places within both the Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts are filling up fast, so if you know someone that you think would want to join in on the fun and adventure then they can apply online www.goldthorpescouts.org.uk or contact Ed on 07778 000934 to find out more.

Goldthorpe Scout Group is a charity in its own right and part of the UK Scout Association, led by adult volunteers, working alongside parents and local community groups, to bring the joy of Scouting to families across the Dearne Valley.

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!
