Goldthorpe's own Scout Group neckers, ready for the ceremony

Goldthorpe Scout Group had a milestone event as it welcomed 29 young members to its ranks.  14 Beaver Scouts, aged between 6 and 8 years, and 15 Cub Scouts, aged between 8 and 10 1/2 years made their Scout promise in a special ceremony at the Goldthorpe Parish Church on Lockwood Road.

A short ceremony as the Beavers and Cubs eagerly await their presentation of necker and badges

Father Alan welcomed the group to the Church, located next door to the Scout & Guide HQ.  And we welcomed parents and special guests from Barnsley District Scouts, District Commissioner, Tina Langley, Ann Oxley and Helen Arthur from the Silverwood Active Support Unit.

That's the adults making their Scout Promise

Next it was time for those Beaver Scouts...

Every one is making a great Scout sign!
Just before making their promise, the Beavers toured the church as part of their work towards their faith badge.

The new Goldthorpe Scout Group!

Thanks to everyone who made the effort to join in on this great celebration, our leaders, our committee members, parents and our special guests.  Finally we were really proud of the Beaver and Cubs behaviour, they did us all proud.

Have a great half term and we'll see you all after the school holidays.

Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today.  Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years.  Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time.  The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group.  In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times.  I also make a special mention of our Treasurer, Mark Davis, and Cub Scout Leader Akela (Cheryl) and Thunder (Ricky) our Beaver Scout Leader who have risen to the challen...

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!
