Let's Go Camping! - Thanks to the People's Postcode Lottery

From September 2014, Goldthorpe Scout Group is prepared for Camp.


Thanks to a generous funding boost from the People's Postcode Lottery, Goldthorpe Scout Group can enjoy the great outdoors with the funding from this grant to purchase much needed camping equipment.

The 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) was awarded £1915 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The organisation has used the money to deliver outdoor camps and events for our ever growing Scout Group.

With numerous sleepovers, camps and events planned for 2015, all our young members from 6 to 14 years, will be able to have a fabulous adventure, making use of all the fantastic equipment made available from this grant.

People’s Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery, where players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes. As a charity lottery, 50p from every £2 ticket goes to support charities and good causes across England, Scotland and Wales, including People’s Postcode Trust. People’s Postcode Lottery believes in supporting local communities so the money raised stays local to players.

Since re-opening its doors in December 2013, Goldthorpe Scout Group has successfully established a Beaver Scout Colony and a Cub Scout Pack, offering fun, friendship and adventure for 30 young people aged between 6 and 10 years from across the Dearne Valley.  In less than 12 months time a new Scout Troop will be opened for boys and girls aged between 11 and 14 years. In this week's Dearne Valley Weekender; Welcome Home: scouting returns

Goldthorpe Scouts story is in this week's Dearne Valley Weekender This week's Dearne Valley Weekender has run a story based on the following press release about our fantastic growth in Beavers and Cubs.   The full story, and the rest of the paper can be read online. 6 th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group has achieved its ambition of bringing Scouting back to Goldthorpe since re-opening the group on December 3 rd 2013, after opening 2 sections, for boys and girls: Beavers ; aged between 6 and 8 years & Cubs ; aged between 8 and 10 ½ years.  After a successful recruitment campaign, via school visits, leaflet drops and through the internet,  the Scout Group has recruited 38 youth members, with 26 on the waiting to join list. Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today.  Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years.  Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time.  The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group.  In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times.  I also make a special mention of our Treasurer, Mark Davis, and Cub Scout Leader Akela (Cheryl) and Thunder (Ricky) our Beaver Scout Leader who have risen to the challen...
