Akela (Cheryl) picks up commendation for Adventurous Cub Leader - Sparkle Awards 2015

In tonight's South Yorkshire Scouts Sparkle awards, our Cub Leader, Akela (Cheryl), was awarded a commendation in the Adventurous Cub Leader category.

In its second year, the Sparkle Awards has grown as there were over 200+ nominations this time for one of 6 categories.  The awards are nominated by Scouts (or parents on their behalf) and then the nominees are picked for the awards by a panel of young Scout leaders.

We thank all those who nominated Akela for an award, it is really important that we take time to say thank you to our adult volunteers who give their time and energy to making every day an adventure at Goldthorpe Scouts.  We are very proud to have Akela (Cheryl) as our Cub Scout Leader, she is doing a grand job and the pack is thriving.

The awards were part of the South Yorkshire Scouts AGM and there is an online magazine where you can read about how Scouts is having a fantastic impact on communities across the county.

Since re-opening its doors in December 2013, Goldthorpe Scout Group has successfully established a Beaver Scout Colony and a Cub Scout Pack, offering fun, friendship and adventure for 30 young people aged between 6 and 10 years from across the Dearne Valley.  In less than 12 months time a new Scout Troop will be opened for boys and girls aged between 11 and 14 years. In this week's Dearne Valley Weekender; Welcome Home: scouting returns

Goldthorpe Scouts story is in this week's Dearne Valley Weekender This week's Dearne Valley Weekender has run a story based on the following press release about our fantastic growth in Beavers and Cubs.   The full story, and the rest of the paper can be read online. 6 th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group has achieved its ambition of bringing Scouting back to Goldthorpe since re-opening the group on December 3 rd 2013, after opening 2 sections, for boys and girls: Beavers ; aged between 6 and 8 years & Cubs ; aged between 8 and 10 ½ years.  After a successful recruitment campaign, via school visits, leaflet drops and through the internet,  the Scout Group has recruited 38 youth members, with 26 on the waiting to join list. Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today.  Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years.  Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time.  The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group.  In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times.  I also make a special mention of our Treasurer, Mark Davis, and Cub Scout Leader Akela (Cheryl) and Thunder (Ricky) our Beaver Scout Leader who have risen to the challen...
