The Scout Association has awarded a Start Up Grant to Goldthorpe Scout Group £1000

HQ Start up Grant supports Goldthorpe's development plans

Starting up a new section within a Scout Group is one of the best ways that we can provide more opportunities for more young people to join the adventure that is Scouting.  Thanks to the support of our District Commissioner, Tina Langley, Goldthorpe Scout Group have been given a boost in supporting the Group by way of a grant to aid its future development.

Thanks to a recent change in June to the way grants are allocated, Goldthorpe has been one of the first Groups in England to benefit from this increased level of support.  This level of support will help build upon the solid foundations that have been laid by the Group since re-establishing itself in December 2013.

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!
