Scouts provide the recipe for success in kitchen makeover

Thanks to a great collaboration between the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group, the BMBC Ward Alliance fund, Acorn Joinery & Building Services Limited, Priera Limited (electrical services), AMG Plumbing & Heating services, the tired kitchen at the Scout & Guide HQ was ripped and replaced by one that will provide years of service.  Behind the scenes our Scout leaders and their nearest and dearest helped demolish, remove, clean, and repaint the shell so that the tradesman could do their bit.  Everyone was flexible, adaptable and willing to get the kitchen ready in just 1 week, we salute you all!  There's always a lot more mess than you first imagine...

There was no running hot water for washing up

The kitchen now has ample running hot water, lots of clean surfaces to prepare food and drinks, clean storage areas, a hob, oven and fridge.  It is difficult to put into words the difference this work has made to the physical space, but what is incalculable is the benefit such a facility that all users of the building will get from it in the future.  The first sleepovers by Beavers and Cubs are already happening this weekend, so the kitchen better brace itself :-)
