Goldthorpe Beavers and Cubs go camping

This weekend sees 16 Beavers take on the Bear Grylls survival camp at Hesley Wood Scout Camp in Sunny Sheffield and 7 Cubs camp out at Silverwod Scout Camp in Brill Barnsley as part of a Sixers and Seconders training weekend.  Some first time campers under canvas so let's hope the rain stays away and the bugs don't bite!

If you would like to be part of our adventure visit our website:www.goldthorpescouts.org.uk or contact Ed, our Group Scout Leader on 07778000934

We are opening a Scout Troop for young people aged Between 10 and 12 years in January 2015, why not tell someone you know that a limited number of places are available right now!  Apply now via the website or risk losing out!

Finally our Beavers section is bursting at the seams so we can't take any more!

But the good news is that we are thinking of starting a new colony if we can find adults willing to help.  Same website, same telephone, you know you want to...join the adventure...it's just begun.

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!
