Friends and Family Onesie Walk - Donations and pledges are in...

Goldthorpe Scouts are prepared to raise funds for themselves and others
The friends, families and supporters of Goldthorpe Scout Group undertook a sponsored onesie walk last Saturday the 12th July in the glorious Summer sunshine, unlike today, as it currently very wet :-(

The donations from that day have been counted and we can report a total of £449.50 plus £69.50 which has been pledged, giving a grand total of £519.00!

The sponsored walk was organised to raise funds to be split equally between the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group and the Goldthorpe Development Group (GDG) as the group are in need of funds to develop and maintain a community allotment in Goldthorpe and we think that is a worthwhile endeavour to support.  You can find out more about the GDG here: https://www.facebook.com/GoldthorpeDevelpomentGroup

Once again thanks goes out to the adult supporters, their scouts and families who all joined together to keep fuelling the fun at Goldthorpe Scouts whilst at the same time begin to invest in the development of the wider community.

Cubs Visit Goldthorpe Library

Last week the cubs paid a visit to the local library in Goldthorpe as part of their  Book Reader Activity Badge They had a great time as they learnt about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction. They discovered where to look in the library for a dictionary and how to use a thesaurus. They found out how the library catalogues their books so that you can find them easily and how you should care for your books so that they last a lifetime. The next stage in this badge is for the cubs to read 6 books. They should be able to name the authors and be able to tell the other cubs about the books they have read. Thanks very much to the staff at the library for showing our cubs the ropes!

Aged 18 or over, living in the Dearne Valley: Are you ready to join the adventure with Goldthorpe Scouts?

Since re-opening its doors in December 2013, Goldthorpe Scout Group has successfully established a Beaver Scout Colony and a Cub Scout Pack, offering fun, friendship and adventure for 30 young people aged between 6 and 10 years from across the Dearne Valley.  In less than 12 months time a new Scout Troop will be opened for boys and girls aged between 11 and 14 years.
