Goldthorpe Beavers enjoyed a night of St.George, starting off with making helmets, shields, fair maiden masks and hats, and the all important dragons.

Did you know that St.George is the patron saint of Scouts?
Baden-Powell chose Saint George to be the Patron Saint of The Scout Association. He felt that the Saint George of legend set a good example of faith, courage and perseverance for future generations.

Since re-opening its doors in December 2013, Goldthorpe Scout Group has successfully established a Beaver Scout Colony and a Cub Scout Pack, offering fun, friendship and adventure for 30 young people aged between 6 and 10 years from across the Dearne Valley. In less than 12 months time a new Scout Troop will be opened for boys and girls aged between 11 and 14 years. Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today. Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years. Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time. The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group. In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times. I also make a special mention of our Treasurer, Mark Davis, and Cub Scout Leader Akela (Cheryl) and Thunder (Ricky) our Beaver Scout Leader who have risen to the challen...

The full story, and the rest of the paper can be read online. 6 th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group has achieved its ambition of bringing Scouting back to Goldthorpe since re-opening the group on December 3 rd 2013, after opening 2 sections, for boys and girls: Beavers ; aged between 6 and 8 years & Cubs ; aged between 8 and 10 ½ years. After a successful recruitment campaign, via school visits, leaflet drops and through the internet, the Scout Group has recruited 38 youth members, with 26 on the waiting to join list.
