Back in the day (well 1993)

Whilst preparing the Scout HQ for the re-opening of the Goldthorpe Scout Group (on December 3rd if you didn't know), a programme and menu from a summer camp in May 1993 was found. It seems that the summer camp programme including a lot of walking and canoeing, with a bit of "scout work" thrown in for good measure.

The scouts on this camp stayed at Appletreewick Near Skipton from 25th May to the 5th June in 1993

Perhaps you know some of the names from the blue and red patrols? If you do let them know about this!

The menu from 1993 included a bacon joint and BBQ spare ribs, mmm!

Since re-opening its doors in December 2013, Goldthorpe Scout Group has successfully established a Beaver Scout Colony and a Cub Scout Pack, offering fun, friendship and adventure for 30 young people aged between 6 and 10 years from across the Dearne Valley. In less than 12 months time a new Scout Troop will be opened for boys and girls aged between 11 and 14 years. Goldthorpe Scouts story is in this week's Dearne Valley Weekender This week's Dearne Valley Weekender has run a story based on the following press release about our fantastic growth in Beavers and Cubs. Goldthorpe Scout Section invests 10 new Scouts into its brand new Scout section

Goldthorpe's Scout Section It was with great pride that 10 new Scouts were officially invested into the Scout Section of the 6th Barnsley (Goldthorpe) Scout Group today. Just over 18 months ago, there was no Scout Group, and there had been no Scouts in Goldthorpe for over 12 years. Today marks a watershed moment, as 10 new Scouts were invested into a group alongside 21 Beaver Scouts and 26 Cub Scouts, with several on a waiting list to join and new enquiries all the time. The group is in great shape due to the persistence and determination of the parents who have all stepped up to play a role in supporting the group. In particular, thanks has to be made to our Assistant Group Scout Leader, Breeze (Andrea), who has worked across all 3 sections and kept me going in truly challenging times.
